PURPOSE:To increase the utilization factor of an active material and enable large capacity to be obtained by using cobalt powder available from the thermal decomposition of cobalt oxalate as cobalt powder to be contained in a nickel electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrode base substance is filled with active material paste mainly composed of pulverized nickel hydroxide, and dried, thereby obtaining a nickel electrode. This electrode is made to contain cobalt powder available from the thermal decomposition of cobalt oxalate. In this case, 1 to 20 weight parts of the cobalt powder are used for 100 weight parts of the pulverized nickel hydroxide. For example, 2 weight parts of cobalt powder obtained from the thermal decomposition of the cobalt oxalate is added to 100 weight parts of the pulverized nickel hydroxide. Then, 50 weight parts of water solution containing 1 weight part of carboxylmethylcellulose and 1 weight part of polytetrafluoroethylene are added and mixed, thereby preparing active material paste. The electrode base substance is filled with this paste, dried and molded for use as an electrode. According to this construction, the utilization factor of the active material can be increased and the large capacity thereof can be obtained. |
