The dashboard display employs a semi-transparent reflecting element (2) orientated to present to the observer from its reflecting surface a magnified virtual image of speed and other data registered by the indicator unit. The indicator is placed near the focus of a concave mirror and light travels initially through the element to the mirror and thence to the element for reflection to the observer via the front screen. The element (2) has a reflectivity which is high only for wavelengths determined by the indicator spectrum and similar qualities characterise the front screen and concave mirror to eliminate external stray light interference.
