A compsn. for producing lacquer (I) from nitrocellulose powder (II) contains 5-20 pts. wt. acetone and 30-35 pts. wt. other organic solvents etc., together with 2-18 pts. wt. (II), 1-15 pts. wt. nitrocellulose, 5-20 pts. wt. synthetic resins, 1-10 pts. wt. plasticisers, 5-25 pts. wt. pigments and 5-50 pts. wt. fillers. Solvents are pref. MIBK, acetates, aromatics and alcohols. USE/ADVANTAGE - For colourless lacquers, enamel varnish, primers, industrial and domestic cements etc. The use of acetone (and/or mIBK) together with the normal solvents (see below) enables the prodn. of solns. contg. more than 10 wt.% (II); these solns. can be prepd. relatively quickly and are suitable (w.r.t. viscosity) for the prodn. of compsns. with various properties for different applications.
