Microsurgical knotting of material to human eyeball - using of forceps with strain gauge on each branch for measurement of thread tension during operation

The method involves securing transplanted material to the site of transplantation by the joining and knotting of thread (25) manipulated by forceps (40) with two branches (41,42) gripped at their centres (43,44) between a finger and thumb. Strain gauges (45,46) installed on the insides of the branches near their tips are connected by cable to a processing and display instrument operable by means of a foot switch. A mark (47) on each tip shows the exact position for the thread to guarantee the correct length for knotting. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in corneal transplant surgery, astigmatism due to differences in tension of the thread can be minimised.
