A cartridge (50) adapted to an electronic device is equipped with a discriminatiion circuit (54) and a ROM (56). The discrimination circuit discriminates the type of an electronic device in which the cartridge is inserted by utilizing the fact that the behavior of an address strobe signal given from a CPU (510) in the electronic device varies depending upon the type of the electronic device. A predetermined bit of address given from the CPU is transformed depending upon the type of the electronic device and is given to the ROM (56). As a result, a data determined by the type of the electronic device is read out from the ROM (56) and is given to the electronic device.
