PURPOSE:To obtain a hydroxyphenylalkyl-carboxylic acid which is useful in medicines by oxidizing a lower alkyl phenol with a microorganism having specific properties. CONSTITUTION:Pseudomonas putida (FERM No.12544) which grows using at least one of aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds, organic acids, their salts, alcohols, saccharides as a carbon resource and has strong power to oxidize lower alkylphenol is used to effect shaking culture in the carbon resource- containing medium at 6.5 to 8.0pH and 20 to 36 deg.C for 3 to 10 days. Then, the resting cells or the components of the cell bodies are brought into contact with a lower alkylphenol to give the objective, corresponding hydroxyphenylalkyl-carboxylic acid. |
