<p>PURPOSE:To properly carry out regenerating treatment without damaging filters by estimating the quantity of unburned particulates remain by the regeneration time from the regeneration start of the filters to the interruption due to the stop of an engine, and by changing the subsequent regeneration judging value in accordance with the estimated quantity. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine is constituted in such a way that particulate filters 2, 3 are incorporated in exhaust passages, and after the quantity of particulates collected in the filters has reached a regeneration reference value, the particulates are ignited by heaters 15, 16, and regeneration gas is supplied for carrying out regeneration. This device is provided with a regeneration time counting means by which the time from the start of regeneration is counted at the time of regeneration of the filters, and a regeneration reference value changing means by which the subsequent regeneration reference value is changed in accordance with the time from the start of regeneration to the stop of the engine when the engine is stopped during the regeneration of the filters. The regeneration reference value changing means is constituted in such a way that the correction value to be added to the subsequent regeneration reference value is increased as the time from the start of regeneration to the stop of the engine is short.</p> |
