PURPOSE:To obtain a colored display which looks good, can make bright display, can be relatively reduced in cost and has good visibility by writing characters with a coating material which allows the transmission of light of the wavelength nearly equal to the wavelength of the light passing the element on a substrate of either one side. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal electrooptical element 33 of a particle dispersion type or high polymer dispersion type is constituted by transferring the character 34, etc., onto the substrate 31 by dichromatic dyes which absorb a certain specific wavelength in the element and such coating material which allows the transmission of the wavelength of the light transmitted by the coating material. The character 34 of this liquid crystal panel has the color similar to the color of the light scattered by the element 33 when a voltage is off and, therefore, the character 34 is inconspicuous and is not captive to sight. The element 33 exhibits a transparent state when the voltage is on and, therefore, the character 34 is shown in relief by regulating the color of a background 36. Namely, the character 34, etc., are displayed with good visibility without forming patterns on electrodes, etc. |
