PURPOSE:To facilitate, when the lamp is assembled, positioning of a conductive cover and fixing of the cover to a base, and prevent leakage of any noise from an insulation-clad electric wire and the like as a result of displacement of the cover due to vibrations applied to the lamp, etc. CONSTITUTION:A base 4 supports, at one side thereof, an arc tube 1 provided at its ends with a pair of electrodes, and has a flange portion 5a formed with a stepped portion 5b in its surface located at an opposite side to a side where the arc tube 1 is located. Within this base 4 are provided conductors connected respectively to the electrodes and two insulation-clad electric wires inserted from the other side of the base 4. Within the base 4, the conductors and the corresponding insulation-clad electric wires are respectively connected together. An outer peripheral portion of the base 4 corresponding to location of at least the insulation-clad electric wires is covered by a conductive cover 16 connected at one end to an electrostatic shield 17 and having at the other end a flange portion 16a formed with a straight portion 16b. During this process step, the cover 16 is fixed to the stepped portion 5b while fitted in three grooves 6 formed in the outer peripheral surface of the base 4, thereby providing a construction wherein the insulation-clad electric wires are covered by the shield 17. |
