The present invention relates to a method for ensuring the successful routing of a telephone call to a called party, and a corresponding telephone installation. Such a method consists especially in allocating to each person likely to be called and depending on a branch exchange, an auxiliary number which is different from his extension number. By dialling this auxiliary number on any free instrument of the network, a user (after having been alerted by a paging system that a call is waiting for him) allows the automatic switching-over of the communication on standby for him on to the extension on which the auxiliary number has been entered. The invention also relates to a telephone installation, implementing this method. This installation can be adapted to existing branch exchanges. This method and this installation thus facilitates the successful routing of telephone calls, especially when the called party is not at his extension. <IMAGE>
