PURPOSE: To reduce power variation of spectral lines of a comb-like wave generator which is provided with a waveguide annularly closed and a sideband modulator arranged inside the waveguide. CONSTITUTION: A single sideband modulator 3 generates only a sideband with the same sign for a frequency shift (f1 ), and the magnitude (|f1 |) of the frequency shift (f1 ) is selected so that the product (|f1 |.τ) formed of the magnitude (|f1 |) and an optical circulation time (τ) inside an optical waveguide 2 is equal to π/2+kπ (k is an integer which can be selected arbitrarily). The single sideband modulator 3 generates a sideband having a positive frequency shift (f1 ) and a negative frequency shift (-f1 ), and the magnitude (|f1 |) of frequency shifts (f1 , -f1 ) is selected, so that the product (|f1 |.τ) formed of the magnitude (|f1 |) and the optical circulation time (τ) inside the optical waveguide 2 is equal to π/4+kπ (k is an integer which can be selected arbitrarily). |
