PURPOSE:To establish a ground fault detecting method for a transmission/ distribution line in which sensor structure is simplified and cost is reduced by fixing only a current sensor to a distribution line and the direction and the section of ground fault can be specified positively by simplifying a detecting system. CONSTITUTION:An optical current sensor 1 is fixed to a high voltage distribution line (w) (three-phase) and a detected current is fed to a signal processing section 2 where a zero-phase current and the phase angle thereof are determined and delivered through a switching slave station 3 to a relay unit 5. The relay unit 5 obtains ground fault phase data through an incorporated ground fault relay 5a and thus obtained data are delivered to a central unit 6.
