A current supply for hybrid road vehicles i.e. with a IC engine and electric motor drive has a grid of conductors supported on masts and stay-wires above the roadway. Two trolley arms for current pick-up are mounted on the roof of the vehicle, arranged one behind the other. The actual contacts are bars with ends bent downwards. The trolley arms are spring-loaded so that the contacts can slide freely on the grid of conductors. The grid is a regular rectangular pattern with insulators between conductors. Only the transverse conductors are live, a sequence of positive and negative voltages being applied to, say, every fourth conductor. The intermediate conductors, and longitudinal conductors, are current-free. ADVANTAGE - Allows the use of ecological hybrid vehicles.
