PURPOSE:To provide an isobutane ammoxydation catalyst having a high activity and high selectivity to methacrylonitrile. CONSTITUTION:In a method for producing methacrylonitrile by subjecting isobutane, ammonia and molecular oxygen to a catalytic reaction in a gaseous phase, there is employed a catalyst having the composition of general formula XMoaAbBcCdOp [X is one or more elements selected from Ta and Nb; A is one or more elements selected from W, V, Sn, Sb, Fe, Al Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba; B is one or more elements selected from Li, Na, Rb and Cs; C is one or more elements selected from Ce, Pr and Tb; (a), (b), (c), (d) and (p) represent the atomic ratios of the respective elements when X is used as a standard element; (a) is 0.1-24; (b) is 0-20; (c) is 0-0.4; (d) is 0-0.4; (p) is an atomic number required to be satisfied with the atomic valencies of the respective component elements]. |
