PURPOSE:To enable total number of particles to be counted accurately and with a high sensitivity by expanding a range for determination of a particle counter. CONSTITUTION:Time required for counting the total number of particles within a sample passing through a detection part is controlled, the intermediate count value SIGMAC or a frequency f of an intermediate check point tn and a setting value C1 or f1 (C1 and f1 are index values for judging whether a sample concentration exceeds a determination range or not from SIGMAC and f at tn point) are compared, and then C or f is compared with a setting value C2 or f2 (C2 and f2 are larger than C1 and f1 and are index values for telling that the sample is highly dense to the extent that determination expansion compensation coefficients alpha and beta can not be set) in the case of SIGMAC>C1 and f>f1. A blank count value SIGMAB is subtracted from the total number count value A in the case of SIGMAC<C1 or f<f1, a blank count value B is subtracted from alphaSIGMAC or betaf in the case of C1<SIGMAC<C2 f1 <f<f2, and then the sample is diluted again in the case of C>C2 or f>f2. |
