The weft insertion arrangement on double carpet loom operates as one shot in single shed. The double heald shaft caters for the top and bottom fabric, and the jacquard selects the warp pile yarn for the correct height. The weft is inserted by repier pair with middle transfer, supported by a series of laminations to enable the warp shed of the top fabric to be covered. The rapier is enclosed in the shed by the reed, and at each side of the carpet is has end supports on the loom frame. Pref. the weft is inserted by means of rapier system in which the giver is met halfway by the taker. Series of laminations are used across the reed to give support should be rapier sag. The normal gap above the laminations is 1 mm. The top of the laminations is above the bottom shed of the ground warp of jute or similar material which holds the pile in the top carpet. The pile yarn is controlled for pattern and shedding by a jacquard capable of forming pile between the top and bottom carpet.
