The device comprises in the region of the two ends of the upper working roll 1 on the strip out-feed side of a rolling stand, above the plane 11-11 in which the strip runs, elastic catching members 13 of large area in the form of brushes 16 circulating on respective endless chains 17 transverse to the direction a in which the strip runs. Stripping rollers 21 are provided for removing the rolling oil from the brushes 16 and catch trays 22 catch the rolling oil dripping off the brushes. In between the endless chains 17 blower nozzles 24 are arranged on the strip out-feed side directed on to the surface 7 of the central section of the upper working roll 1. A catch tray 25 is provided which extends close up to the roll surface beneath the nozzles. The oil collecting in the catch tray 25 runs either directly into the stand sump or via the catch trays 22 fitted below the brushes 16. <IMAGE>
