The rectangular mounting is in one piece and preferably of injection-moulded plastics, having a rear wall (4, 4a) with profiled edges (1) forming opposite grooves (9, 19) of different depths, in which the plate is inserted from the front in succession. Spring supports (14), inserted via slots (17) in the deeper groove, hold the plate engaged with the shallower one (10). The mounting is chamfered at the corners at the ends of the deeper groove (9), the slots being adjacent to the chamfers (18). The supports hinge on the mounting, and swing through the slots into the deeper groove, where they lock in position. They can do so on pins at right angles to the plane of the number-plates, being in the form of eyes with portions at the sides working against the pins etc., from which they can be detachable.
