PURPOSE:To improve the equal leg characteristic, rod burn resistance and flexibility of a coated electrode for gravity type arc welding and to improve the efficiency of a welding operation by coating a coating material consisting of specific components at specific ratios on a carbon steel pipe having a specific ratio between the outside diameter and inside diameter within a specific coating ratio range. CONSTITUTION:The coating material contg. 8-35wt% SiO2, 5-24wt% TiO2, 1.5-15wt% FeO+Fe2O3, 10-60wt% Fe, 3-11wt% Mn and 2-10wt% >=1 kinds of Ca, Mg and Mn carbonates is coated in a 1.4-1.7 coating ratio range on a core wire consisting of the carbon steel pipe having 0.24-0.50 the ratio of the inside diameter with respect to the outside diameter. Such coated electrode improves the equal leg characteristic, rod burn resistance and flexibility in gravity type arc welding and improves the efficiency of the welding operation with the satisfactory gas shield.
