PURPOSE:To provide a superconducting computer that has the improved computing performance by setting a specific corresponding relation between a machine cycle and the wiring length of the computer. CONSTITUTION:The components per chip of a superconducting IC 1 is referred to as d (gate/cm<2>) with the machine cycle of a superconducting computer 3 referred to as (m), the relative dielectric constant of a substrate 2 as epsilon, the sum of vertical and horizontal lengths of the substrate 2 as 2a (cm), the light velocity in vacuam as c (cm/s), and the number of gates of a logic circuit as G (gate) respectively. In such conditions, 2a m X c/epsilon<1/2> and also d X a<2> G are satisfied. That is, the signal delay caused at a logical gate is satisfactorily small compared with the time when the signal is transmitted through a wiring 4 owing to the use of a superconducting element. Therefore the computer 3 can work in the cycle (m) as long as the maximum wiring length is smaller than the distance that can be covered in a single machine cycle. Thus it is possible to improve the computing performance of a single processor to >=1 X10<9> (number of times executing instruction/s) with <= the cycle (m) set at 1ns.
|
