<p>Energy efficient barrier using thin slats (10, 12, 14, 16, 42a, 42b, 42c, 42d, 42e, 42f), having a side with plural reflective surfaces (22, 134). Reflective surfaces are oriented at angles to maximize reflection of sun rays. Reflective surfaces are series of stairsteps along the length of a slat. Slats can be extruded material having reflective surfaces plated on V-grooves therein. Slats are oriented to direct rays of the sun, passing direct rays of the winter sun but reflecting summer rays. A skylight assembly has spacer members (44a, 44b, 44c, 44d) having slots (46a, 46b, 46c, 46d, 46e, 46f, 48a, 48b, 48c, 48d) engaging slots formed in the slats, for aligning the slats with respect to the sun. The slats can be fixed or adjustable. Deflectors (19a, 19b, 19c, 19d) on trailing edges of the slats deflect direct sunlight into a more vertical path. Fresnel lens (202) and reflector (212) direct winter sunlight into a structure, while directing summer sunlight away from the structure. Sunlight is guided through hollow light guides (320, 500, 602, 702, 704, 706, 708, 710, 712) from a skylight to other locations within a building.</p> |
