On an automatic winding machine the yarn is unwound from a cop, with the cop being supported upright on a plate. When the plate is in the working position, the unwinding is assisted by a mechanism to ensure fast and unhindered yarn flow, and the cop plate is secured in an exact position. The winder (1) pref. has conveyor bands at each side of the frame, so that a full cop (204) which is held vertically on a cop plate (230) is carried to the winding position by the band (211). The empty tube (204) is still held on the plate, and proceeds down to the band (212). ADVANTAGE - The rigidity of the secure system enables the yarn to be unwound at a fast rate, and without causing breakages or defects in the yarn.
