The present disclosure relates to whisker reinforced ceramics preferably based upon pure oxide ceramics or mixed ceramics, which by means of coating with a thin wear resistant surface layer have obtained improved performance. It has been found that coating with a thin surface layer protects the whisker material against chemical attacks and provides a possibility to make better use of the inherent good properties of whisker reinforced ceramics. |
