PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption by omitting the operation for updating an undesired tap coefficient without deteriorating the characteristic when a line fluctuation is small. CONSTITUTION:The receiver is provided with an equalizer 12 eliminating distortion of a transmission line from an inputted reception signal, an identification device 13 identifying data '0', '1' from output data of the equalizer 12, an output error calculation section 15 using the data outputted from the equalizer 12 and the identification device 13 to calculate an output error, a tap coefficient update section 17 which does not update the tap coefficient when the inputted correction coefficient is zero but uses the correction coefficient and an output error calculated by an output error calculation section 15 when the correction coefficient is other than zero to update the tap coefficient, and a tap coefficient latch section 18 latching the updated tap coefficient. |
