A braking stretch is provided on which along the path of the falling body (3), a number of compressed air and/or water nozzles (11) are directed and are inclined upwards. Catching . flukes (9) are arranged one above the other at the side wall of the falling body (3) opposite the nozzles (11), the jets of compressed air or water impinge on the underside of the flukes (9). The nozzles are fed by a water container (13) arranged at the top end of the free fall trial stretch. In the reverse direction of the linear motor it can be accelerated upwards via jets and catching flukes. USE/ADVANTAGE - System for braking free fall of falling body, e.g. trial shaft for mining purposes. Brakes body falling from great height. Offers first satisfactory system for this purpose.
