AGGREGATE OF SULFONATED ULTRA-FINE FIBER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject aggregate having high chemical stability and excellent hydrophilicity by splitting a part of a conjugate fiber composed of a component containing introduced sulfone group and the other component and combining a bonded conjugate fiber with the split ultra-fine fibers. CONSTITUTION:A conjugate fiber is produced by the conjugate spinning of (A) a methylpentene polymer consisting of poly(4-methylpentene-1) or a copolymer of 4-methylpentene-l and other alpha-olefin and (B) a poly(alpha-olefin) having a melting point of >= l30 deg.C in such a manner as to expose at least a part of both components on the fiber surface. The obtained conjugate fiber is drawn, opened optionally after cutting and formed in the form of a web or opened tow. The objective aggregate is produced by spraying the product with pressurized water jet to effect the splitting and interlocking of a part of the conjugate fiber and sulfonating the treated product to introduce sulfone group into the component A.
