PURPOSE:To enhance an accuracy in judging whether a recording head is defective or not. CONSTITUTION:A predetermined voltage is applied to a power source terminal of a CMOS drive circuit of a recording head 7 through a relay matrix circuit 9 at a predetermined timing. When the voltage is applied, an electric current passing to a grounded conductor is measured by an ammeter 15. Based on the measured current value, whether the recording head 7 is defective or not is judged by a CPU 16.
