PURPOSE:To readily prepare the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for a diabetic complication remedy by reacting 4-flurorophenol with acrylonitrile as raw materials in the presence of a catalyst comprising a tertiary amine, treating the prepared intermediate with an acid and subsequently treating the product with sulfuric acid. CONSTITUTION:4-Fluorophenol as a raw material is reacted with acrylonitrile as a raw material, preferably in an excess amount based on the 4-fluorophenol, usually in an amount of 2-3 times moles, in the presence of a tertiary amine catalyst to prepare a 3-(4-fluorophenoxy)proppionitrile. The compound of formula II as an intermediate is treated with an acid to form a 3-(4-fluorophenoxy) propinonitrile acid. The compound of formula II is subjected to a ring-closing reaction in the presence of sulfuric acid to provide the compound of formula III. A compound of formula IV as a diabetic complication remedy is prepared by heating the compound of formula III in the presence of sodium cyanide, etc. |
