The present invention relates to a tubular linear motor. The tubular linear motor comprises a secondary and a primary (12), the latter comprising a plurality of strips (laminations) (22) and of coils (20). Each strip has a length from which several notches are cut out. When the strips are placed beside each other, the notches together form channels in which the coils are housed. The coils are arranged in poles (56), each pole comprising a discrete number of coils corresponding to the number of phases of the drive current of the linear motor or a multiple of this number. A percentage of coils (58) corresponding to the phase U closest to the first end (42) of the primary is positioned at the second end (44) of the primary. <IMAGE>
