PURPOSE:To enable more colorful display with a ferroelectric liq. crystal display device driven by simple matrix driving even in the case of binary driving and to improve the balance of the hue of display. CONSTITUTION:In this ferroelectric liq. crystal display device in which red, green, blue and white monochromatic picture elements are arranged in the form of a matrix and driven by simple matrix driving with an information electrode 1 and a scanning electrode 3, one of the electrodes 1, 3, e.g. the information electrode 1 is divided into two (1, 2) and one of the monochromatic picture elements is composed of two elements. Each of the monochromatic picture elements is fitted with a red, green, blue or white color filter made of polyamide resin or a polyamide resin-based material and the opening of the white picture element is made small by shielding part of the element from light with the leading-out metal electrode of the electrode 1 or 3. |
