PURPOSE:To provide a nickel electrode for an alkaline storage battery of high capacity with high performance and the alkaline storage battery of using this nickel electrode by specifying the volume of internal fine holes and a composition of a crystal lattice, in nickel hydroxide powder which is a main component of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:The volume of internal fine holes of nickel hydroxide powder is 0.14ml/g or less, and further to provide a composition where a crystal lattice is partly replaced with Co and the other additive element by compounding. This replacing amount is set, by element ratio, Ni to 0.8 or more and 0.99 or less, Co to 0.01 or more and less than 0.20 and further a total amount of Co and the other additive element to 0.01 or more and less than 0.20. A degree of freedom of proton shift in a crystal is increased by partly replacing a nickel hydroxide crystal with Zn, Mg, Cd, Ba and Co, to improve a utilization factor of active material, and also production of gamma-NiOOH can be suppressed. |
