According to this process the product is treated in its packaging form in a medium consisting of a fluid in the supercritical state. The plant comprises a source (1) of carbon dioxide connected to an exchanger (2) communicating with a suction pump (5) for the fluid in an autoclave (9) intended to contain the metal product to be treated, and means for discharging from the autoclave, a reactor (7) placed between the pump (5) and the autoclave (9) and connected to these components and which contains an additive intended to dissolve in the carbon dioxide delivered by the pump, this additive being a compound chosen to increase the solvating power of the carbon dioxide for the organic residues present on the metal surface to be treated. This process has the advantage of allowing the products to be treated in their storage packaging. <IMAGE>
