The box (2) has a roof (6) and two sides (4,5) with front door (8), in contact when closed. Attached to the inner surface of the back is a flat panel (11) with horizontal grooves (14) at regular intervals over the whole internal face. An inner void is enclosed by the sides, roof, panel and door, with access opening at the bottom. The sides, roof, back and door are all made of wood cement wood which is a heat insulating material. The panel is of spruce, or alternatively of plywood, a better insulating material than the box. ADVANTAGE - The bats are protected against the cold and draughts, and also from rain.
