Memory card as a means of mass storage for EDP installations, by means of which the unauthorised use of software stored thereupon is prevented. In the memory card there is unalterably stored a protective code identifying the memory card and/or the EDP installation and/or the manufacturer. The software program to be protected is supplemented by a protective routine, which branches to actual program execution only if a reference code contained in the protective routine coincides with the protective code unalterably stored on the memory card.
