Abstact The invention relates to a process for the preparation of novel 2-thienyloxyacetic acid derlvatives of the formula I I in which R denotes a phenyl or thienyl group which is optionally mono- or polysubstituted by halogen, trifluoromethyl or C1 - C4 alkyl, and of pharmaceutically usable salts thereof by oxidation of the corresponding sulfonamide alcohol of formula II with Ag2O and if appropriate conversion of the free acid into a salt. These compounds can be used for the treatment of thromboses, inflammations, high blood pressure, apoplexy and angina pectoris.
