PURPOSE:To improve combustion on the second stage on a piston without making a swirl chamber into large size and deteriorating combustion on the first stage in the swirl chamber. CONSTITUTION:A main combustion chamber 1' is constituted of a guide groove 3 and two recessed parts 4', 5', the respective recessed parts 4', 5' are provided with first straight wall faces 4'a 5'a nearly perpendicular to the direction A of jet passing through the guide groove 3 and second straight wall faces 4'b, 5'b nearly in parallel with the direction A of Jet, the respective first straight wall faces 4'a, 5'a and the second straight wall faces are respectively connected to each other through wall faces 4'c, 5'c of relatively small radius of curvature. The respective first straight wall faces 4'a, 5'a are provided on the lower stream side in the direction A of jet from the wall face 3a on the piston center side of the guide groove, and smoothly connected to the wall face 3a on the piston center side through curved wall faces 6.
