PURPOSE: To replace threads by simplifying mechanical constitution by joining the thread in use and the next thread of different color by an air vortex and introducing the preceding thread into a thread-stretching body, a threading eyelet of a balance and an eye of a needle, and then, cutting and separating the joined part. CONSTITUTION: In an embroidery machine, a thread joining device 11 having a duct- shaped whirl chamber 12, which is communicated with a compressed air nozzle 13, is arranged in the downstream of a bobbin carrier 8, on which plural bobbin 9a to 9e are mounted. In the case of replacing the thread 24 in present use on the bobbin 9b with the next thread 23 of different color on the bobbin 9a in accordance with the color is changed, the thread 23 is introduced into the whirl chamber 12 and is joined by the air vortex caused by the compressed air nozzle 13, after which the thread 24 is cut and separated. The part joined with the tread 23 linked to the preceding thread 24 is drawn out with a thread drawing device 21 disposed behind the needle 7 through the thread-stretching body 15, the threading eyelet 17 of the balance 16 and the eye of the needle 7. After the joined part passes through the eye of the needle 7, the joined part is cut and separated with a thread cutting body 20, whereby the replacement of the threads is complete for the subsequent sewing operation.
