The h.v. power switch has two nozzle-shaped coaxial contact members (6, 7) at a fixed distance apart as well as a drivable bridging switch (8) and a compression cylinder (2) connected to the switch drive. The cylinder (2) has a metal cover (1). This has a constant current contact (3) on its outside. When it is switched on, this contact (3) is surrounded by a screen (4) of a fixed counter contact (5). When it is switched off, it forms a screen around the nozzle contact member (6) on the drive side. Thus, the unit can be built in a metal capsule (17) without an additional insulating housing. ADVANTAGE - Allows more compact construction which can be built inside a metal capsule.
