A safety brake for a movable leaf, for example a folding gate, comprises a pair of brake blocks 7 which are mounted inside the hollow profile 3, in which the leaf is mounted with rollers, and which are constantly acted on towards their braking position by a pressure spring 9. The force of the spring 9 is transmitted by wedge action to the blocks 7 by two shoes 8. A wire pull 10, 11 can release the brake by pulling on a handle. The leaf is therefore braked and cannot be caught by gusts of wind when nobody is present at the leaf. <IMAGE>
