Locating of workpiece and pallet on machine tool

Workpieces (3) are mounted on the worktable (2) of a machine tool by means of pallets (1). The pallet is made from a relatively soft material, such as an aluminium die casting, or brass or a zinc alloy. The undersurface of the pallet has one or more bosses with three radial ribs (4) projecting from each boss. These ribs fit in matching recesses (6) formed in bosses projecting from the worktable (2).the ribs are finished accurately to sizes by means of a tool made from a metal which is harder than that from which the pallets are made. The shape of the tool corresponds to the shape of the recesses (6) in the bosses (5) of the worktable
