The present invention relates to thiazole ethanol derivatives of the formula II <IMAGE> wherein Ar is phenyl, optionally substituted with halogen, C1-6 alkyloxy, C1-6 alkyl, nitro or with two halogen atoms, or it is pyridinyl, thienyl or furanyl; R1 and R2 are C1-20 alkyl, (cyclohexyl)methyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl, and one of R1 or R2 may be hydrogen; or R1 and R2 taken together may form a C3-6 alkanediyl radical. The invention also relates to the process for the preparation of such compounds and the intermediates, having the structural formula VIII, used in the process. <IMAGE>
