PURPOSE:To shorten recording time when signals to be recorded from a recorded medium are successively recorded in plural recording mediums. CONSTITUTION:In a recording and reproducing device which records successively signals to be recorded from an external compact disk in plural tape cassettes 3, the signal detecting circuit 12 detects interruption of signals to be recorded not less than the set time during recording a signal to be recorded from the compact disk in one of the tape cassettes 3, a control device 13 switches the next tape cassette 3 to the recording preparatory state based on the detected result without confirming completion of recording of the above mentioned tape cassette 3.
