PURPOSE: To provide a nickel oxide electrode with which an improvement in the degree of a change in transmittance in an electrochronaic window is possible. CONSTITUTION: This nickel oxide electrode is produced by evaporating nickel oxide (Ni2 O3 ) by heating under a reduced pressure to deposit a nickel oxide film having an atom ratio of nickel : oxygen of 0.7:1 to 0.9:1 at <=100nm thickness on a conductive glass plate, then activating the thin film of the nickel oxide by electrochemical intercalation with lithium ions of the quantity corresponding to a charge level of 100 to 100C/m<2> .
