The cover is intended to cover a piece of furniture such as a settee, armchair or divan. It comprises several panels (1 to 4) cut from a non-stretch decorative piece of fabric and joined together. Each panel is a cut out of said fabric with a much larger surface area than the surface area of the corresponding portion of the piece of furniture to be covered by said panel and comprises at least one elastic strip (B4, B2) sewn to the back of the panel to form a row of elastic gathers. The surface areas of the panel and of the corresponding portion of the furniture are in a ratio of approximately two to three, as a result of which the cover can be adapted to furniture of different shapes and sizes. <IMAGE>
