The clamping device is intended for single tools and has a tension part (7) which is accommodated in a spindle (4) and with which a tool holder (8) or a tool (26) can be restrained on the spindle (4), relative to which the tool holder (8) or the tool (26) can be centred. The tension part (7) has a conical clamping and centring part (18) which lies in the area outside the spindle (4) and interacts with at least one conical surface (39, 40). The latter is provided on the tool (26) or the tool holder (8) and lies in an end recess (30) of the tool (26) or the tool holder (8). With the clamping and centring part (18), the tool holder (8) or the tool (26) is centred and clamped in one step with regard to the spindle (4). Since the clamping and centring part (18) lies outside the spindle (4) and the conical surfaces (39, 40) are provided in the end recess (30), the tool (26) or the tool holder (8) does not need to be inserted into the spindle (4).
