Device (1) for placing, around a package (24), a sleeve (14) which can be stretched elastically around its periphery, comprising a chassis (2), a plate (3) on which are distributed and articulated a plurality of levers (4) from each of which projects a finger (6) for grasping and stretching the said sleeve (14), a means (18) for actuating the levers (4), the said device comprising presser means (9) which are mounted on the chassis (2), on the periphery of the plate (3), and are displaceable in translation, characterised in that: - the means (18) for actuating the levers (4) is mounted on the plate (3), independently of the chassis (2) - the plate with the means (18) for actuating the levers (4) is displaceable in translation between a retracted position, in which the fingers (6) are extracted from the gap between the packaging (24) and the sleeve (14), and a sleeving position, in which the said fingers (6) are introduced into the said gap, means (22) for actuating the plate between its working position and its retracted position being provided. <IMAGE>
