PURPOSE:To evade beforehand the fault due to a defective disk device after starting the device, to improve the reliability of the device and to prevent the lowering of the utilizing efficiency of the device, in the device starting method of an array disk device. CONSTITUTION:A self diagnosis is performed in respective control parts (DIR4, AC7, PC8, DC) in the device and an error is detected when power source of the device is applied. Thereafter, a disk device having a fault is picked up by placing to respective disk devices DU, PAD in an array disk unit(ADU) 3. The data of the fault disk device is retracted to a spare disk device HS when the falt is picked up and the fault disk device is separated from the array disk unit 3 and thereafter, the device is started. |
