The grating (10) has sawtooth edges along two opposite sides (11) and is made up of a number of hexagonal cells (14) which are filled with earth. Each cell has a base (15) and a hole (16) in the top. Other similar panels can be tied in by T-shaped hooks (12, 12') and correspondingly shaped slots (13, 13'). The sides of the cells (17) are of uniform thickness with indents (18) in the top edges to enable caps (20) to be fitted.
