The sender-receiver system to monitor the space between them for objects, especially at spinning machines, has an additional circuit (14) with at least two independent monitoring circuits (18-21). At least one circuit (18,20) switches off the release signal (FS) if, during the sender (11) switch-on time a receiver signal (IN1-IN4) is not registered after an initial time delay. The other circuit (19,21) switches off the release signal if, while the sender is (11) is inactive, a receiver signal (IN1-IN4) is registered after a second time delay. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system is used at spinning machines to monitor yarn breaks at the spinning stations. It can use conventional light chamber assemblies and the working of the receiver can be tested for reliability by switching off the sender, or otherwise operating it electrically.
