Multilayer filter - contains calcinated diatomite as active filter material

The filter, for fluids with suspended solids, contains calcinated diatomite as the active filter material. Also claimed is a process to filter suspensions with a fibre concn. of max. 10 power 13 fibres/litre. The filter is pref. multilayer structure (5), with a layer of calcinated diatomite. It has a ceramic coarse filter plate (6) supporting a fine-pore woven (7) and a layer (8) of calcinated diatomite, which is further covered by a fine-pore woven. The woven layers (7) are also multi-layered woven from polyester monofilaments. The calcinated diatomite layer (8) has a thickness of 1-4cm. USE/ADVANTAGE - The filter is for treating fluids with suspended asbestos. The filter gives an effective filtration, without exposing operatives and the environment to hazardous asbestos fibres, to give water of drinkable quality.
